Designing custom furniture is one of our favorite projects. Jones Homes was commissioned to create a custom industrial style desk. We hand selected rugged pieces of lumber and fabricated the base with steel tubing. With a piece like this, I am looking for wood that had knots and imperfections. After the stain and clear coat, all of the imperfections come to life!

This particular desk had predetermined measurements because it had to fit in a certain place in the customers home. Having said that, we could make this desk any size to fit your needs.

We were strategic in how we assembled the desk. I cut the boards so that the grain in the wood matches as closely as possible and the knots are in places that will catch your eye. Things like that will give your table character and help give it that rustic look on top. Pair that with the metal piping for the legs and you have yourself an industrial style desk.

Since this was a desk for a client who planed on working from quite a bit I beveled the edge all of the way around the table with a router. While it was supposed to help the client physically, it also is aesthetically appealing. I then used multiple sanding techniques to get the top ready for stain. After staining and multiple coats of a semi-gloss clear coat, this was the result:
