We stay busy during the week at everyone else’s house, but busy at our own home on the weekends! It took us a while to finish our Mount Dora bathroom remodel. 6 weekends from demo day until we were showering in our new bathroom to be exact.

From the day we bought this house 2 years ago we have wanted to remodel our bathroom. Between finding time and deciding on an inspiration we were a little hung up.

While my wife and I were in Mexico on our way to a small surfing town called Sayulita, we saw a man selling hand-made copper sinks on the side of the road. We stopped and ended up with this one of a kind patinated vessel sink stuffed in our carry-on. We then had our first design inspiration.

I have to say, we are both a little disappointed in our before pictures (or lack there of.) It is completely my fault though. I got home from work one night and Sierra was at a photo shoot. I went in to take a shower and decided I had had enough!

Sierra came home to this. (below) Luckily we had another shower we used while this one was being renovated. We finished up the demo that weekend and starting putting it back together. We were so happy to get rid of that tub!

That wasn’t the best part of the demo process though. After exposing the framing in the exterior wall we realized there was a window there previously. We had even talked about adding a window before we started but it was going to be more work and more money than we were looking to spend on this modern farm house bathroom. When we got that pleasant surprise, we pulled the trigger on a window and Eco Glass in Longwood really hooked it up. (my favorite part of the bathroom)

Sierra spent every second of free time during the week rounding up the tile, paints, fixtures, glass door, and decorations. The wall subway tile in the shower was purchased from Floor & Decor, and the chevron floor tile from The Tile Shop, which was something Sierra saw on a house I had just recently renovated. The shower pan and sliding doors we ordered from Amazon.

The last big step, was building the vanity. Sierra had always had something very specific in mind for it. It had to be floating, and it had to be stained wood with two big drawers where she could organize all of her “stuff.” I was able to build the drawers around the plumbing, maximizing the space.

We were used to having minimal storage in the old bathroom vanity, so this was a nice change! We also added shelves next to the shower that were built to fit baskets Sierra found at Lowes. I built them to look solid, however they are just plywood that wraps down and around which really gives it that modern farm house bathroom look.

Then to top it off, Sierra put the finishing touches on the floating shelf above the toilet. It is a piece of solid maple which was ideal because of its light color and ease of being able to stain match the vanity. I was impressed with the bracket I bought for it. It bolts to the wall and two short polls stick out from the wall, and then you drill holes in the back of your shelf so that it slides over the polls, completely concealing the bracket. That was another Amazon find!

We made a good team on this project; she designed it and I built it.

We are super stoked with how it turned out. We never thought we could like a bathroom this much!
