If you want to catch everyone’s attention who comes over to or near your home, you need one of these rough sawn cypress pergolas. This pergola will play such an integral part of the hardscape of this back yard. Once the vine is planted to grow on it, it with be the conversation piece of the neighborhood.

Pergola

What makes this pergola unique is the details. You’ll see we didn’t bury the posts in the ground, we took the time to layout concrete footers so the posts would sit in buckets on top of the concrete. It doesn’t matter what kind of wood you use, if you bury it in the ground it will eventually wick water up into the post and rot it from the inside out.

Two of my favorite details about this pergola is the 2×8’s that span from side to side are notched to sit down on top of the 2×10’s that span front to back. It of coarse takes a lot more time in measuring and cutting but the difference is absolutely worth it. Lastly how the posts are notched to fit inside the buckets. We simply marked out where the metal would go and routed it out. It really is all in the details and worth taking the time to take your pergola to the next level.

Another fact about this pergola that makes it even sweeter is that it was all harvested from right here in Central Florida. That is also what makes it such a weather and bug resistant hardscape piece. It will also get a good coat of exterior sealer, so this pergola will be here for a long time. It is such a beautiful wood, but let me tell you, you better have some strong guys working with you!
