Wait until you see what a difference this stone fireplace accent wall made in this family room. The goal was to add a fire place and have the TV be flush with stone so we decided to do a bump out to allow room for that.

BEFORE

As a first step we carefully planned for the heights at which we would hang the TV and fireplace. When we applied the stone we didn’t want small slivers, meaning we would have a full piece of stone when going around the objects on the wall. Next we hung a special TV wall mount bracket that allows for it to extend out flush with the stone when completed. In order to make room for the fireplace and the TV we custom framed the bump-out with 2×6’s. Lastly, we hung the Durarock so we could mortar the white flat stone to that.

We had to take into account was any electrical on the wall, like the lights and receptacles. Adding the stone means that it will extend the mounting of these things out a couple inches. We also applied the flat stone in a special no-seam method. The two outside corners of the bump-out have the stone cut at 45 degrees so no cut edges are shown, giving it a clean finished look.
